New Delhi: YSR Congress Party senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP V Vijay Sai Reddy has appealed to the minister for environment Dr Harsh Vardhan to save the people of the villages of Achyutapuram and Rambilli mandsls in Vizag district from the clutches of pollution.
He told the minister that as many as 40 companies in the Special Economic Zone have been flouting pollution norms with impunity and are causing pollution. He told the minister that the 40 companies in the SEZ have not constructed the sewage treatment plant that they have assured to construct. As a result, the drinking water in several villages in Rambilli mandal and Achyutapur mandal have been polluted. This is also affecting the fish catch in the water body, he pointed out.
He said the companies were directly releasing effluents into the sea affecting the marine life. He also pointed out that the locals have launched several agitations in the past and have also lodged several complaints with the Vizag district collector, but to no avail. The YSRCP MP also asked the minister to initiate action against the polluting companies and save the local people.
