YSRCP MLA demands ST status for Valmikis

Velagapudi: YSR Congress Party MLA Gummanuru Jayaram on Monday has appealed to the government to include Valmiki caste in Scheduled Tribes (ST) list in the State. Speaking in the Assembly during the zero hour, the YSRCP MLA said that in five districts in AP, the Valmikis in the ST and in eight districts, they are in BCs.
He further said that while he is in BC list, his son is in the ST list in the neighboring state. He also said that the Valmikis are included in the Scheduled Tribes list in Karanataka.
There are 139 communities in BCs and government is yet to clear over Rs. 35,000 dues. Seeking ST status for Valmikis,  Gummanuru Jayaram demanded Rs 1,000 crore for the welfare of Valmikis in the state.
