YSRCP to highlight defections, spl. status, corruption

Hyderabad, July 16: Amendment to Anti-Defection Law, Special status, Polavaram besides rampant corruption and other issues concerned the state would be raised by YSR Congress in the ensuing Monsoon Session of Parliament.

Speaking to reporters after the Parliamentary Party meeting, chaired by Party President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy here on Saturday Party MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy said: ‘ there are many loopholes which are being exploited by vested interests and we will demand that the power to disqualify defectors should be vested with the Election Commission and not the Speaker.’

Twenty MLAs and 3 MPs have defected from our Party but no action was taken and they continue to be law makers of a different party from which they were not elected. This system should be checked to save democracy and we will press for amendment to the Act which gives more teeth enabling serious action to be taken within three months.

Defectors should seek a fresh mandate and our Rajya Sabha member V Vijay Sai Reddy would be moving a private Bill on the issue.

The other issue we would be taking up is the special status which was promised by the Centre and did not come through. This would enable the state to progress as there would be more sops to investors and employment would be generated in a big way.

Expediting Polavaram, which is a national project and allotting more funds would be the other issue we would be raising during the Parliament session, he said.

The rampant corruption, be it Pattiseema or other scams would also be highlighted and the recent survey has placed our state on top of the table among corrupt states in the country, he said.
