YSRCP demands MSP to cotton farmers of TS

Hyderabad,
Oct 13: Demanding the State and Central governments to purchase cotton from
farmers through designated agencies and provide the assured MSP, Telangana unit
of YSR Congress has said the TRS government should fulfill all its poll
promises.

“Cotton
should be procured by Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) and farmers should be
paid an MSP of Rs 5,500 per quintal as they are in distress and TRS has
promised to work for the welfare of the farmers,” Party Working President for
Telangana and Khammam MP P Srinivasa Reddy and Janak Prasad told reporters here
on Monday.

The
situation is bad and farmers are being exploited by middlemen by paying just Rs
3,000 though the MSP was fixed at Rs 4,080. We demand that the State and Centre
should ensure that the farmers get Rs 5,500 per quintal as MSP and it should be
procured by CCI or authorized government agencies to avoid middlemen, they said.

Cotton is
the most important crop in Telangana region and is grown in an extent of 17
lakh hectares standing next to Gujarat
and the government should ensure a fair deal to the farmers to usher in the
promised Golden Telangana. We will
also meet the Chief Minister and Governor and submit a memorandum to this
effect, they said.

 The
Hudhud cyclone has affected parts of Telangana as well and the Party would tour
the affected areas, the Khammam MP said.
