YSRCP condemns hike in power charges

Hyderabad, March 31: YSR Congress has condemned the hike in power charges coming into effect from April 1 and said it will have a cascading effect on the economy.
‘The new tariff announced by the Electricity Regulatory Authority would impose an additional burden of Rs 216 crores on the people and this is the second time in two years that Chandrababu Naidu has increased the power charges,’ party MLA G Srikanth Reddy told reporters here on Thursday.
Though domestic sector is exempted from the hike, industrial sector will be affected and the effect will be passed o to the common man, he said.
TDP has hiked the power charges by Rs 941 crores for 2015-16 and now by Rs 216 cores for the year 2016-17 aggregating to Rs 1,150 crores.
Before polls he had promised that there would be no hike in power and RTC charges but he has increased current charges twice in as many years and increased RTC fares once. YSR during his five year term did not increase power or RTC fares, he said.
