Mangalagiri: Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh assembly and YSR Congress Party President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy promised to the huge gathering of weavers that their party, after coming into power, would give Rs 2,000 per month as subsidy to every weaver in the state. Speaking at a face to face programme with the weavers here today as part of his historic public outreach programme Praja Sankalpa Yatra, he said that pension would be provided to all the weavers above 45 years and that their families as well as children’s studies would be supported.
YS Jagan highlighted the betrayal of the weavers by the TDP government led by state chief minister Chandrababu Naidu. He spelled out the YSRCP's plans for the weavers which would be incorporated in Navaratnalu.
The YSRCP chief observed that the situation of weavers in Mangalagiri, Venkatagiri and Dharmavaram was very dire. Over the last four years, 65 weavers committed suicide in Dharmavaram, he pointed and said the TDP government was in denial mode just because they would have to pay compensation to the victims. "After using the skilled labour for photo opportunity during the last election campaign, Chandrababu has not done anything to them."
YS Jagan mentioned that Chandrababu had promised loan waiver to weavers, Rs one lakh for every family, Rs 1,000 crore yearly budget for weavers in the state, a house and a shed for loom. "But the fact is he has spent just Rs 180 crores on weavers in the last four years," and called upon the weavers in the gathering to put an end to this unjust government.
The Leader of Opposition said that with the blessings of people the next government would be formed by YSRCP which would extend a supporting hand to the weavers across the state. "We will do double the good work that was done by former chief minister late Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy, who always had the welfare of the weaker sections uppermost in his scheme of things."
YS Jagan said that once YSRCP comes to power they would establish a Weavers’ Welfare Corporation, provide a subsidy of Rs 2,000 per month to every weaver, give pension to all the weavers who have crossed 45 years, build houses and loom sheds. These apart they would also provide Arogya Sri, fee reimbursement and old age pensions to the weavers community, he added. During the interaction, many weavers and women highlighted their problems to the YSRCP Chief.
