Hyderabad, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy would hold a dharna in the capital region on August 26 in protest against the TDP government invoking the ordinance to acquire land forcibly and go ahead with its single-mindedness of pooling land bank without showing any concern to the farmers and their sentiments.
‘At a time when the Centre has backed out from passing the ordinance in the Parliament, Chandrababu Naidu invoking its provisions to acquire land forcible is highly deplorable and our Party President will hold a dharna on August 26 demanding the State to refrain from such strong-arm methods,’ party spokesperson K Parthasarathi told reporters here on Saturday.
Though the entire country is opposing the Ordinance which would be amending the Land Acquisition Act, and Chandrababu Naidu going ahead with it and acquiring land using the ordinance is deplorable and our party strongly opposes it, he said. We are not opposed to the capital region but we are opposed to the government acquiring land with force.
Despite the Government having a land pool of 33,000 acres already acquired in addition to the 30,000 acres of government land available, TDP is going ahead for the 3,000 acres of land which the farmers are not willing to surrender due various reasons.
TDP in its affidavit to the Green Tribunal has said that the land it intends to acquire is uncultivable which is not true. Experts have said that 30,000 acres is sufficient for the seed capital, to build the basic infrastructure, but TDP’s greed is hurting the sentiments of the poor farmers, he said.
The August 25 dharna at Machilipatnam in protest against the apathy of the state towards the viral fever which has claimed many lives will be held as scheduled, he said.
