Hyderabad,
May 16, 2014: Affirming that the Party will honour the people’s verdict, YSR Congress
has said that it will play the role of a constructive opposition and will
continue to be with the people fighting for their cause.
“We
honour the verdict given by the people and we will be in the opposition playing
a constructive role and bounce back in the next term,” party president YS Jagan
Mohan Reddy told reporters here on Friday after the results and thanked all the
people who reposed faith in the party and voted in its favour.
Attributing
the reasons for the defeat, he said it was Modi wave along with the false
promises of N Chandrababu Naidu that went against the Party.
“We were
never in power and were not relegated to opposition. In fact we started off
with one MP and one MLA increased the tally to 2 MPs and 20 MLAs and now we
having 10 MPs and 70 MLAs.
Due to
certain circumstances including the Modi factor and people believing the false
promises of Chandrababu Naidu we received a setback but we will bounce back in
five years and in the meantime continue to be with people taking up their
cause,” he said in the brief address to the media and congratulated Narender
Modi, Chandrababu Naidu and K Chandrasekhar Rao for getting the mandate at the
Centre and in two states.
It was YS
Jagan Mohan Reddy and YSRCP that was with the people fighting for their cause,
be it on crop holiday, weavers’ issue or fees reimbursement and Chandrababu
Naidu was never seen anywhere fighting with government on people’s issues.
“Still
the Modi factor aided with people believing Chandrababu Naidu’s false and
impracticable promises were the guiding lines of the verdict. We respect the
people’s mandate and I believe in God and destiny and we will stage a comeback
in the five years,” he said.
