Vijayamma objects to nominal reduction

Hyderabad, April 5,
2013: Expressing ire at the nominal reduction of the abnormally hiked power
tariff by the Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, fasting YSRCP honourary
president Smt. Y.S. Vijayamma said the people are not seeking any alms from the
Government and demanded a complete roll back of the hiked power charges.

Smt. Vijayamma addressed
the media at her indefinite fasting camp last night soon after the CM’s
announcement that exempted the tariff hike for consumption up to 200 units a
month.

She told reporters that
Government must reduce the total hike as people are not in a position to bear
the burden. “After imposing a financial burden of Rs.6344 Cr on the people, how
far is the nominal reduction of Rs. 830 Cr justified? People are not seeking
any alms from you.” she told Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Smt. Vijayamma said the
consumers who consume power over and above 200 units a month are not
capitalists and demanded that all domestic consumers must be exempted from the
hike. “We will continue to agitate till the total reduction of the hiked tariff
is announced. The proposed state wide bandh on April 9 also stands,” she said,
adding the people’s ballot programme will also continue.

Expressing anger over
the CM’s silence on the closure of several industries due to the absence of
power and the failure to supply free power to the farmers even for three hours
a day, Vijayamma said the nominal reduction has disappointed the people.
