Vijayamma dares Cong to face by-polls

Hyderabad, April 8,
2013: YSR Congress Party honorary president Smt. Y. S. Vijayamma challenged the
Kiran Kumar Reddy-led Congress Government to disqualify the rebel Congress and
TDP MLAs who voted in favour of the recent no-confidence motion and go for
immediate by-polls in their constituencies.
Speaking to reporters
at the NIMS Hospital Sunday morning after calling off the indefinite fast following
their forced eviction by the police from their fasting camp a few hours
earlier, she asked the Congress to treat the by-polls as a referendum on the
Government’s performance.
“The by-polls should
also be treated as a referendum on the so-called TDP’s fight against the
anti-people policies of the Congress Government. People are bound to deliver
their verdict against both Congress and TDP in the by-polls,” she said
confidently.
Smt. Vijayamma called
off the indefinite fast after accepting lime juice offered by well known
journalist Potturi Venkateswara Rao. The other fasting MLAs and MLCs also
called off their fast.
Slamming the Congress and TDP for their
alleged tactics to delay the disqualification of the MLAs and avoid by-polls
fearing defeat, she said the rebel MLAs sided with the YSRCP to fight on behalf
of people.
Asserting that YSR Congress Party would
continue to fight the Congress Government and TDP’s support to its anti-people
policies, Smt. Vijayamma said the nominal reduction in the hiked power tariff is
of no use to the people and asked the Government to announce a complete roll
back.
“Or else, we will continue to agitate on
behalf of people,” she warned the Government and called upon the people to make
tomorrow’s bandh successful.
