Vijay Sai Reddy Gives Notice For A Private Member Bill
04 Aug 2016 9:31 PM
New Delhi: YSRCP MP Vijay Sai Reddy is going to introduce a private member bill in Rajya Sabha suggesting the need for amendment of laws covering party defection. He has already submitted a notice to the secretary general of Rajya Sabha in this regard. This notice has been listed as the 17th of the list of private member bills for the day.
It is strongly being argued that the party defection law included in the 10th schedule of the constitution is faulty. The speakers of the house sof law have been given the authority to take action against the people's representatives who practice party defection. But the speaker of a house is usually from the ruling party. So the chance of taking action against the leaders belonging to that party is being narrowed. As a result the law itself is being mocked at frequent situations. It is hence being demanded that the authority should be handed over to the elections commission. It is also demanded that there should be a time limit for taking action from the date of party defection.
Hence, Vijay Sai Reddy is appealing for making amendments to the law with a democratic inspiration, by submitting a notice of private bill in this regard.
