TDP's fiscal indiscipline lands AP in a deep financial mess

Hyderabad: Public Accounts Committee (PAC) member and YSR Congress party leader DN Krishna felt that the fiscal deficit in Andhra Pradesh's economy was a result of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu's wasteful expenditure in the last four years. In the interests of the State, we had requested the 15th Finance Commission for allocation of Rs 65,000 crore to AP, he said.
Speaking to media here today, he remarked that the Centre did not fulfil the promises made as part of the Andhra Pradesh State Bifurcation Act, 2014. The 14th Finance Commission never recommended the scrapping of the provision to accord Special Category Status (SCS) to the States.
Recalling that Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Assembly and YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had been stressing upon this point over the past four years, he said that the TDP government compromised on the State's interests while it was in romance with the BJP.
"The Centre's assistance is required to fill the State's revenue deficit. We had requested the 15th Finance Commission to grant the SCS along with providing funds," he added. The Telugu Desam party's fiscal indiscipline landed the state in a deep financial mess, he observed.
