TDP ignoring irrigation sector

Hyderabad, May 11: Telugu Desam Government has been ignoring the irrigation sector and has been pursuing with its commercial agenda and history is repeating with the upper riparian states building projects while the Chandrababu Naidu government plays the role of a mute spectator and YSR Congress has taken up the Save Krishna basin agitation to highlight the failure of the State on irrigation.

‘The irresponsible way in which TDP government is behaving spells doom to state which would convert vast lands of the state into a desert and our leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will sit on a three day fast on May 16, 17 and 18 at Kurnool to highlight the failures of the State on the irrigation front, party MLA B Rajendernath Reddy told reporters here on Wednesday.

During the earlier term of Chandrababu Naidu the upper riparian state has pursued with its aggressive irrigation agenda and has built numerous medium and major dams on Krishna River thus curtailing our water share while TDP, which had a say in the Union Government allowed things to happen in favour of Karnataka.

History is repeating with Chandrababu Naidu maintaining stoic silence when the Telangana government is going ahead with the Palamuru - Ranga Reddy and Dindi projects which will draw 120 TMC from the Srisailam backwaters through lift irrigation.

Such a move would turn six districts of Rayalaseema, Nellore and Prakasam into a desert and the TDP has to wake up before it is too late. Our leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy would go on a three-day fast with the slogan Save Krishna delta as the move of Telangana government would hamper the irrigation prospects of the state very badly, he said adding that in other states all political parties would come together for the interests of the state but in Andhra Pradesh it is different.

Instead of taking care of the drinking water and irrigation needs of the people, TDP has turned the governance into a commercial enterprise. Though Polavaram was given as a boon to the State, TDP government did not allow the Centre to execute the work and has taken up Pattiseema for kickbacks.

Pattiseema has become an infra enterprise, capital city a marketing venture and purchase of MLA a take-over, rather hostile, activity on commercial lines, he said.

‘I appeal to all sections of people to join hands in the Save Krishna basin dharna and make it a grand success,’ he said.
