SIT report eyewash; YSRCP demands CBI probe

Hyderabad, June 19: Rejecting the SIT report on the land scam in Visakhapatnam district, YSR Congress has reiterated that only a CBI inquiry can bring out the facts as officials and politicians are involved in the misappropriation of land and the magnitude of the swindle has been underplayed by the state investigation agency.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday party senior leader Botsa Satyanarayana said, ‘ the report of the SIT (Special Investigation Team) has underplayed the magnitude of the crime as many officials, local ministers, ruling party leaders and top leadership are involved in it.

We have been demanding for a third party (CBI) inquiry into the scam as a state agency cannot do justice and be impartial in the multi-crore scam.

‘State DGP has read out the SIT and said that the scam took place only 270 acres of land in two villages and we totally reject the report,’ he said.

The misuse of land has occurred in over one lakh acres of land covering 233 villages and with such a magnitude, we reiterate that CBI should probe into the scam and not a state investigation agency, he said.

Nearly 40 settlement registers are said to be lost and the misuse of land records occurred in Padmanabham, Anandapuram and Pendurthi mandals, Anakapalle rural in heart of Vizag city as well.

When YSR was chief minister, whenever there was an allegation he ordered for a CBI probe as demanded by the Opposition and came clean on the issue unlike Chandrababu Naidu whose SIT is just eyewash, he said.

The June 22nd Maha dharna would take place at Vizag in which our party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy would take part to mount pressure on the State government to order for a CBI probe and save government land., he said.

Earlier, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy held a meeting with party leaders to discuss among other things, the June 22 Maha Dharna and plenary on July 8 and 9.
