Paleru sugars will be taken back from Nama

Khammam, April 25,
2013:  Moved by the plight of Nelakondapally
locals who have been leading distressed lives after the former chief minister
Chandrababu Naidu had gifted away the Paleru Sugars Cooperative Ltd to his
party MP Nama Nageswara Rao, Smt. Smt. Y.S. Sharmila assured them that YSRCP
would look into the issue after coming to power and justice would be done to
them.

“After becoming CM, Sri
Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy will review the issue and the Sugar factory will be
taken back and given to the people to whom it belonged,” she told a
Rachchabanda programme where farmers and the former employees and workers of
the factory recited their problems on Wednesday.

The locals told her
that they were left high and dry as the 1976-built cooperative sugar factory
worth hundreds of crores of rupees was gifted away to Nama Nageswara Rao
cheaply for Rs.9 Cr by Naidu.

“We were not
compensated by any one when the factory was sold out. The factory had fed us
for 20 years. Our shares were worth Rs.3 Cr when it changed hands but we were
not paid anything when it was sold out,” farmers, former employees and daily
labouers told Smt. Sharmila.

The farmers complained
they were cheated by the officials of the Sugar factory promising them loans on
their Pattadar Passbooks. “Pledging our passbooks, they obtained loans worth
Rs.10 Cr but we were not given anything,” the farmers told her.

Nama had an eye on the
granite reserves lying in the area and he has been waiting for mining of the
area, they told Smt. Sharmila.
