Naidu must come clear on alliance with BJP

Hyderabad, Aug 12,
2013: YSR Congress Party on Monday sought a clarification from TDP Chief
Chandrababu Naidu whether or not his party would forge an alliance in the next
elections with BJP which was once described by him as religious and
anti-secular.

YSRCP MLAs
K.Srinivasulu and A. Amarnath Reddy told journalists here that Gujarat CM
Narendra Modi’s speech at his yesterday’s public meeting praising the late NTR
and actor Balakrishana’s meeting with Modi in the guise of inviting him for his
daughter’s wedding have only indicated of the forthcoming electoral bonhomie
between the two.

Naidu, like a true
opportunist, has been in the habit of joining hands with new friends while
dumping his old allies to protect his self-interests, they observed.

“To escape from CBI cases, Naidu joined hands
with Congress and extended his direct and indirect support to the Congress
Government in the state. It was evident during the no-confidence motion in the
assembly and also during the just concluded Sarpanch elections apart from the
Legislative Council polls,” they said, adding that Naidu was trying to join
hands with BJP now for political gains and to protect his self-interests.

“The interests of the
state and the people are not important to him,” Srinivasulu and Amarnath Reddy
said.

The YSRCP MLAs had recalled
that Naidu described BJP as religious and anti-secular party prior to 1996 but
allied with the same party in 1999 general elections while dumping the
communists after BJP came out with a charge sheet and threatened to investigate
the allegations against him after coming to power.

“Both Naidu and BJP
leaders later regretted their poll alliances but now Naidu has been finding a
new attraction in BJP for electoral gains,” they said, demanding him to come
clear on the reports of a possible alliance with the party.

The MLAs have condemned
the utterances of Congress and TDP leaders making YSR responsible for the
division of the state. “If YSR’s name has been unnecessarily dragged into the
division issue, people will not forgive both the parties,” they warned.
