MLAs waste first of the 5-day session

The first day of the 5-day monsoon session of the assembly ended without discussing any public issue today even as the absence of chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu was objected to by political observers.

Speaker Nadendla Manohar adjourned the house till Tuesday hardly forty minutes after the members assembled as opposition parties created pandemonium in the podium demanding Speaker to take up their adjournment motions first.

As soon as the assembly began its session, both TRS and TDP members entered the Speaker’s podium and created ruckus raising slogans that their motions be taken up first. Speaker adjourned the session for ten minutes following the ruckus but when it reassembled, similar scenes were witnessed by the House as TRS members raised slogans demanding introduction of a resolution on creation of Telangana.

Speaker adjourned the House for half an hour second time but again noisy scenes returned to the House when the members reassembled.

Speaker allowed a short discussion on the power crisis in the state and appealed to members to remain calm. Nadendla Manohar said he has cancelled the question hour to facilitate the discussion on power situation.

With ruckus continuing, Manohar adjourned the House till tomorrow.

Adjournment motions

Earlier, all the opposition parties gave notices of adjournments motions on different public issues. While YSR Congress party gave notice of adjournment motion demanding full fee reimbursement for all poorer sections of BC and EBC (Economically Backwards Communities), notices of adjournment motions were given by TDP, TRS and CPI seeking solution to the power crisis, introduction of T resolution and pensions to all those who participated in the Telangana armed struggle respectively.

BJP also gave notice for an adjournment motion seeking official status to the Telangana liberation day while the MIM served introduced resolution demanding full reimbursement for all poor students.

Absence of Kiran Kumar and Naidu

Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu were conspicuous by their absence in the assembly on the first day.

While Naidu attented a private function at the house of cine actor Bala Krishna, Kiran Kumar was absent due to his Indiramma Bata programme.

“Their absence from the assembly is tantamount to disrespect to the assembly,” commented an analyst while participating in a panel discussion over the Sakshi TV channel.
