Here Is What The Tobacco Farmers Have To Say

Jangareddygudem: The leader of opposition and YSRCP president YS Jagan is arriving at the agency area of West Godavari district. He will speak to the tobacco farmers about their problems and extend his support to them. The farmers are blaming Chandrababu for not coming to their aid when they have no fair price. Here is what the farmers of West Godavari district have to share with the people's leader.

We will take it to the notice of YS Jagan
Rs.120-130 is being paid for a KG of tobacco while the actual cost is Rs.160-180 sufficient to support us. Fertilisers also cost very high now. Only if fair price is offered for tobacco, will the farmers be able o get out of debts. In spite of 25 Quintals of tobacco production this year, there is no fair price offered. The Government's negligence will only prompt us to commit suicide. We will take our problems to the notice of YS Jagan and try to bring pressure on the Government.

This year prices have droppped
The cost of tobacco has decreased a lot from last year. We cannot continue cultivation unless we sell 2 acres a year.
G.Gandhi, Tobacco farmer

No fair price
Tobacco farmers are facing a lot of problems due to lack of fair price. Our problems grew after Chandrababu came into power. The minister visits us whenever he knows the opposition leader is going to visit us. There is actually nothing the minister does for us. Babu has destroyed even the cooperative system by preventing sanction of subsidies.
Gangadhara Rao, Tobacco farmer, Tadavayi village

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Government should have warned us in the beginning
Chandrababu's Government should have told us not to grow tobacco in the first place. Not offering fair price is troubling us. We will explain our problems to YS Jagan and request him to stand by us and fight for us. We will ask him to take our problems to the notice of the central and the state Governments.
Prasad, Tobacco farmer, Chinnavarigudem village

Other political parties followed YS Jagan
The Government is being indifferent to farmers. Last year, when YS Jagan visited us, other political parties followed. There has never been any help from the Government. The Government is not even caring for our problems.
Polnati Babji, Tobacco farmer, Srinivasapuram
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Babu's deceptive rule is repeating
Babu's rule from 2000 has come back. The farmers lives have fallen into dilemma. Chandrababu has deceived the farmers as well as the other classes with his false promises. Babu is playing with people's lives.
Goda Srinivasa Reddy, Tobacco farmer
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No fair price since three years
I have been growing tobacco since 20 years. Since last 2 years, fair price has not been offered. The future seems to be vacuum.
Nageswara Rao, Tobacco farmer
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Government is doing injustice
The Government is doing injustice to the tobacco farmers. This indifference, if continued, will lead to the farmers stopping cultivation. We will explain our problems to the opposition leader.
