Chanduru (Nalgonda Dt)
Feb 12, 2013: Smt. Y. S. Sharmila, who has been undertaking Maro Praja
Prasthanam Padayatra on behalf of YSR Congress Party, came down heavily on the
Kiran Kumar Reddy-led Congress Government for diluting most of the welfare
programmes after the death of Dr.YSR.
Addressing a huge
public meeting at Chanduru in Nalgonda district during the course of Padayatra on
the 63nd day Monday evening, Sharmila said it was unfortunate that drinking
water was not being supplied regularly even to the villages where works were
completed by YSR regime.
“YSR solved the
fluoride problem by supplying Krishna water to 450 fluoride-affected villages
but if he had been alive, the remaining fluoride-affected 525 villages too
would have got drinking water facility by now,” she said.
The Government is not
in a position to supply even drinking water to the villages, she said and
asked: “Is this Government necessary for you?’ “No,” pat came the reply from the massive
gathering.
SLBC
water to Nalgonda
Smt. Sharmila said that
Dr. YSR had allotted Rs.1900 Cr for the works to be taken up for SLBC tunnel to
bring drinking and irrigation water to four lakh acres in Nalgonda district.
“But the works were abandoned after the death of YSR,” she said, adding some
more villages in the district would have got drinking and irrigation water if
the works had been completed.
Speaking about the
problems of the handloom workers, she said while Dr.YSR worked to waive
handloom weavers’ loans, the present Government has abdicated their welfare totally.
Smt. Sharmila also
talked about the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the cotton produce and the
problems of the toddy-tappers and promised to solve the issues on a priority
basis when the YSRCP assumes power.
