Govt. Exploiting Polavaram For Commissions
27 Dec 2016 5:14 PM
- YSRCP is not against Polavaram's construction
- Polavaram was initiated under YSR's rule
- YS Jagan fought against the centre as an MP for Polavaram
- TDP filed case in the court and did Padayatras against Polavaram
- What was NABARD's approval for Polavaram? How much has been sanctioned?
- Has the centre been convinced for revised estimations?
- YSRCP's official spokesman K.Parthasarathy
Vijayawada: YSRCP's official spokesman, K.Parthasarathy, complained that Chandrababu's Government had been using Polavaram project to earn commissions from it. Opining that the project would have been completed by now if the TDP leaders had commitment, he commented that they had their eye on the funds sanctioned by NABARD to it. Speaking to the media at Vijayawada, he stated that not even 5-10% of the work had been completed in the past 2-3 years.
Recollecting that many Governments, since 1940, had wanted to complete the project but could not, Parthasarathy stated that it was under YS Rajasekhar Reddy's tenure that the project had taken shape and acclaimed YSR for getting all the permissions that were due for decades, shelving the project. He also reminded that the work of the right and the left canals of the project had been completed during his rule. He criticised that the TDP leaders who were pretending to love the people of Rayalaseema now, had actually posed obstacles to the project earlier, citing the court cases filed by them and the Padayatra held by current irrigation minister, Devineni Uma, against the project's construction.
We shall cooperate
Parthasarathy expressed readiness, on behalf of YSRCP, to cooperate with the TDP Government if it went ahead with the project's construction with commitment. Criticising the double entendre of Chandrababu in the matter of Polavaram, he questioned why the national project had been taken up by the state when it was actually the responsibility of the centre to do it and for whose convenience the revised estimations for the project had been raised. Demanding the state Government to clarify all the doubts about Polavaram, Parthasarathy called it degradation of TDP to complain that YS Jagan was posing hindrance to the project and reminded how, as an MP, YS Jagan had fought in support of Polavaram.
How is consoling victims wrong?
Questioning how it was wrong for the leader of opposition in the state to console the victims in the flood areas, Parthasarathy reminded that it was the duty and the right of the opposition parties to stay supportive of the general public and expose the Government's misdeeds. Blaming the Government for the disparities being created among the farmers due to the partiality shown in paying compensation, he demanded that the Polavaram expatraites should be compensated just as those of Pattiseema.
