Jagan mentions the problems faced by chickpea farmers

Hyderabad: Leader of opposition and YSRCP president YS Jagan appealed to
the Government to come to the aid of the troubled chickpea farmers. He informed
that the farmers in YSR district were facing problems, not receiving insurance
amount. YS Jagan mentioned this issue during the question hour of assembly
session.

He revealed how the farmers
had lost their Rabi season crop in 2012. The relevant insurance amount was to
reach the farmers in 2013 but the 56,000 farmers were still waiting to receive
it, stated YS Jagan. He added that some of the amount was released to 29,000
farmers recently upon repeated pressure applied on the Agricultural Insurance
Corporation. He complained that the application documents of the rest of the
farmers were being told to have faults and suggested that such a case should
rather have been mentioned in the beginning instead of pushing the farmers into
distress now.

YS Jagan revealed that even
the 29,000 farmers received Rs.95 crore of insurance instead of the actual
amount Rs.132 crore. He questioned how the amount would be enough for them. He
suggested the Government to take action pertaining to this issue.
