Velagapudi: YSR Congress Party MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy has come down heavily on the TDP government for changing it's stand on the total ban on liquor in the state.
Speaking to the media at the Assembly media point, the YSRCP MLA said that instead of banning liquor in the state, the TDP government is depending heavily on liquor for the revenue. "Chandrababu is looting money at the cost of public health. The state government has set the target of Rs 17,000 crore for the prohibition and excise department in the new financial year. Liquor sales have been gradually increasing for the last three years," he said.
Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy also said that the income from liquor sales was Rs.12,000 crore last year, while it was just Rs 4,497 crore before 2004.
“Belt shops do not sell at MRP and they collect excess price from the customers. An estimated Rs 10,000 crore is being collected from the poor and middle class, who consume liquor,” he added.
Stating that as much as 15 per cent of youth has the habit of drinking liquor, the YSRCP MLA demanded the government to implement its election manifesto and control the liquor prices and prohibit the unauthorized shops.
