BJP-TDP Trying To Kill SCS Issue

Hyderabad, Sept 17: YSR Congress has said that BJP and TDP have been jointly watering down the special category status (SCS) and Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu stands exposed for his double standards on the issue. Speaking to reporters here on Saturday party spokesperson K Parthasarathi said BJP leaders felicitating Venkaiah Naidu and the Party expressing its view that special status has no value shows that it has tied up with TDP in foiling the special category status.

Instead of announcing some sops during the felicitation Venkaiah Naidu has disappointed the people of the state and his ridicule that special status is a dead issue shows that BJP and TDP are pursuing the same line and are bent to deceive the people of the state, he said. It could be dubbed as a felicitation for killing the special status issue perhaps as Venkaiah Naidu has exposed his double standards in the open. It was he who raised the issue in the Upper House while he was in the Opposition now he has been trying hard to bury it down.

The package the Centre has announced has nothing special about is as what was included in it was already due by virtue of the State Reorganisation Bill or the assurance given in the Parliament and what Venkaiah Naidu has been doing was trying to make efforts to wipe out the traces of the promise of special status, but we will resist and fight it out, he said. ‘He has been trying to project as if he has been shouldering the burden of bringing the special package to the State but it has no new substance in it.

Two years have passed and if the assurances are to taken up why were they not included in the Act and the Union Minister telling that many states have asked for special status after he raised the issue has no relevance as the subject under discussion was the Andhra Pradesh Reorganistion and not that of the other states,’ he said.
